Diebold screw up -- again.

September 13, 2004

Once again, in a spectacular PR disaster, Diebold Systems' AccuVote (note the 'Accu') managed to misrecord a vote, except this time, the vote was a simple test, and the voter was a certain Democrat Senator from Maryland. She was obviously unimpressed. The washington times have the story, and i'm sure there will be much blowback and further speculation.

You hit this right on the nose! I really enjoy your weblog and I was so fascinated to find you discussing this exact issue after having had a conversation with a friend on the topic last night. I'll be visiting here often, do you mind if I add you to my blog list?

No, go ahead! Thanks!

Stories like these need to get out to the masses and blogs are one way to reach a larger audience. I want my vote to count. I'm an advocate of electronic voting that includes a 'paper trail'. Critics of such efforts forget that you get a receipt for everything else in life, why not your vote? Imagine going to an ATM and not getting a receipt; I'd be pissed if banks changed their policies and said 'well no more receipts'.
